Job Advert: Deputy Manager
Naomh Breandan Credit Union is a progressive, member-focused, community Credit Union, and we are proud to have served our members and the Loughrea community for over 50 years. The credit union is inviting applications for the role of Deputy Manager, on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a local, progressive and successful, community Credit Union. The Deputy Manager Role will inspire, coach, and mentor our staff, will enable the delivery of high-quality member service, build staff capability, and foster a positive, high-performance working environment. The role combines governance and executive operational leadership with direct oversight of people management, regulatory compliance, and financial accounts/reporting.
Contract Status: Full Time, Permanent Contract (39 hours per week)
Reporting to: CEO/Board of Directors
Salary Range: From €64,431 to €76,530 (6 point scale), starting point on the scale will be commensurate with experience
Overview of Principal Responsibilities
The Deputy Manager will have responsibility for:
Leadership, HR and People Management
- Staff Management: Supporting the CEO, Operations Manager and the management team in leading all NBCU operations, including supervising team members, implementing effective ongoing performance management and staff development, along with coaching, leading and developing the staffing team, with direct line management responsibility for the Operations Team, led by the Operations Manager.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Performing a strong leadership and mentoring role within the NBCU team, encouraging and developing the team, ensuring employees remain focused on strategic objectives and meeting KPI’s, supported through ongoing performance management. This includes:
- Team Development: Acting as a mentor and role model, guiding staff through structured coaching, regular 1-to-1 feedback, and performance reviews
- Change Management and Skill Enhancement: In conjunction with NBCU’s strategic goals, identifying skills gaps and sourcing targeted training to build staff competence in member services, lending, risk, compliance and project work.
- Culture & Engagement: Fostering an inclusive, motivated team environment that encourages high morale, staff retention, and professional growth.
- Conflict Resolution: Setting the tone for staff team morale and NBCU culture, and managing and resolving internal conflicts where they may arise swiftly and fairly.
- Strategic Support: Taking the lead in driving change, and implementing quality standards, digital and sustainable finance projects, in line with the credit union’s strategic goals and pillars
Financial Responsibility: Presenting the monthly financial accounts to the board where required, ensuring all daily and weekly book-keeping tasks, along with all daily liquidity and monthly management and finance accounts, are conducted and produced on time and accurately, and liaising with the audit team and other stakeholders in relation to the annual audit, financial queries and other related matters.
Compliance and Regulation: Ensuring full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the Credit Union, that quality is at the forefront of NBCU’s service provision, adhering to internal and external quality/regulation/compliance standards such as Data Protection, GDPR, Lending and Credit Control Policies (not exhaustive).
The Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
- A relevant third-level qualification (Bachelor’s degree) in Business, HR, Finance, Management, or a related discipline (desired)
- Relevant industry accreditations (e.g., APA, QFA, or equivalent credit union designations) are a strong advantage.
- Exceptional people management, interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to lead, listen, and communicate clearly with staff, management, board, members and stakeholders
- A demonstrable track record in leading, coaching, mentoring, and driving team performance
- Good knowledge and understanding of finance in a financial services or credit union environment
- High proficiency in IT and financial management software
- Prior experience in a regulated Irish financial services or credit union environment would be a distinct advantage
