Thinking of Upgrading Your Home? SEAI Grants Can Help

Thinking of Upgrading Your Home? SEAI Grants Can Help

If you're planning energy upgrades to your home, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) offers a range of grants to support you. These grants make it easier and more affordable for homeowners to make their homes warmer, more energy-efficient, and more sustainable.

Important: You must have grant approval in place before starting any works.
We have summarised some of the information below and you can find all the information about SEAI grants here: https://www.seai.ie/grants/home-energy-grants

Here’s a quick overview of the three main SEAI energy upgrade options:

1. National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme

  • Fully managed by an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop
  • Ideal for multiple upgrades that bring your home to at least a BER B2 rating
  • Grant is deducted upfront from the cost of works

This is a hands-off, all-in-one solution for homeowners who want a full energy upgrade with expert guidance at every step.

2. Better Energy Homes and Solar PV

  • Grants for individual upgrades like insulation or solar panels
  • Allows you to manage your own project
  • Choose from contractors on the SEAI’s registered list

This option is perfect if you want to improve your home gradually, at your own pace.

3. Warmer Homes Scheme

  • Fully funded energy upgrades for eligible homes
  • For houses built and occupied before 2006
  • An SEAI surveyor will assess and recommend works

Designed to support homeowners most in need, this scheme is means-tested and can cover all costs.

Need to Check Your BER?

Before applying, it is useful to know if your home already has a valid Building Energy Rating (BER).

Visit the SEAI National BER Register and search using your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) from your electricity bill, or your BER Number from an existing certificate. See more at: https://www.seai.ie/ber/find-a-ber

Need Help Financing Your Upgrade?

We’ve partnered with the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) to offer the Home Energy Upgrade Loan Scheme, making it even easier to fund your energy-efficient improvements. This loan is available at 2.99% APR and supports works that are also grant-aided by SEAI.(Loans are subject to approval, terms & conditions apply)
