Community Development Manager

Working with individuals and community groups in Naomh Breandan Credit Union’s common bond, with the goal of community building and development.

Contract Status: Full Time, Permanent Contract
Reporting to:      CEO/Deputy CEO

Position Summary:

The primary role of the Community Development Manager is to connect individuals and groups in the Loughrea community, with a view to empowering them to effect positive change, and in doing so, ensuring the credit union remains at the heart of the community.
Note: This role involves working at times that suit individuals and groups in the community, and so it will involve some weekends and evenings as part of normal working hours (39 hours per week).

Primary Responsibilities:

The Community Development Manager fosters community growth and development, by:

  1. Building strong relationships between the credit union and the community.
  2. Identifying and supporting people within the community by empowering them to work together to achieve a common goal.
  3. Supporting people to identify places and times where interested people can come together, to share their ideas and build relationships.
  4. Supporting those individuals and groups who are interested in making change in their community
  5. Taking the lead in all credit union initiatives in the community, including the schools, the quiz and art competition
  6. Liaising closely with the NBCU management team the Marketing Team, and the board and staff, and
  7. Building upon the relationships already embedded in the community, continuing to build strong development, along with identifying potential future volunteers from within the community.

The Person:

The successful candidate will possess the following core qualities:

  • People-person: a natural, easy-going “people-person”, who can interact with any person and/or any group within the community with ease
  • Excellent Communicator: an excellent, natural communicator, with strong verbal and written skills, in addition to strong presenting, listening and empathetic skills
  • Organised: highly organised, can manage concurrent projects and activities with ease;
  • IT, Report-Writing and Project Skills: A solid understanding of the IT tools required to perform the role effectively, i.e., to be able to conduct surveys, produce quality presentations and high quality reports
  • Motivator: an excellent motivator, they promote the voice of the local people and promote community voices rather than their own.
  • Trainer/Teacher: comfortable sharing their knowledge and learning, they have a good presentation style and a convincing public voice,
  • Self-Starter: always able to hold themselves to account, along with being accountable to the community, they are organised and systematic in their approach to work, balanced with creativity and flexibility.
  • Creative and Innovative: ability to think outside the box, to consider new and innovative ways to engage and work with people
  • Continuous Improvement: ensuring ongoing feedback and support, with the aim of continuous improvement as the role grows and evolves
  • Goals and Outcomes: At the core of the role is being faithful to the principles of NBCU and community building, ongoing monitoring and feedback of the work is essential in order to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Increased Volume of interest in NBCU – increased membership, increased level of queries about the CU
    • Positive Impact on NBCU Reputation within the community
    • Positive Impact on Membership Growth
    • Positive impact on volunteering and youth involvement
    • Growth in overall NBCU business/loan book
  • Impact of use of Social Fund in the community
  • Quality of Written Reports and Feedback
