Job Vacancy - Business & Community Development Assistant

We are inviting applications for the role of Business & Community Development Assistant.

Position Summary

NBCU’s core values of family and community are key to our strategic focus and development. To facilitate succession planning, business development, embed the credit union’s social value in the NBCU community and integrate social impact into the strategic plan, the Business & Community Development Assistant will work with, and report to, the Business Development Manager.

Their role will primarily be focused on implementing the credit union’s marketing plan across all media with focus on social media. In addition, in conjunction with the Business Development Manager, working within the community, on the ground, connecting with key stakeholders, finding out how the credit union can actively and practically help address issues surrounding financial & wider community wellbeing, and facilitating the education of members and the wider community in the wise use of credit.

It is proposed that the Business & Community Development Assistant would be on the ‘Marketing Executive’ pay scale, and they will:

  • Partner with trusted entities (local, regional and national) to find out key areas where NBCU can provide assistance and solutions to identified
    issues – i.e. finding the ‘root cause’ of issues and identifying how NBCU can help
  • Work on the ground in the community, in local factories and businesses, business groups, schools (13 currently) and other education/social groups, to promote NBCU, to listen to issues, ideas and concerns, to feed back this information to the management team, to provide a direct link between NBCU and the community, and to grow the business (e.g. direct debit facility for workplaces in the community etc)
  • Work actively with youth groups, and take responsibility for all youth-related projects (including the schools quiz and poster competition), including the development of new youth-related initiatives
  • Take responsibility, under the direction of the Business Development Manager, for all social media and digital marketing, including the newsletter and newspaper articles/interviews etc
  • Liaise with Gort and Ballinasloe CUs in co-ordinating local campaigns
  • Identify the best way NBCU can invest in the community – providing a rationale for the provision of funds by the CU to a particular group(s)
  • Enable NBCU develop its policy and practices with regard to sustainability going forward

The Person

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong understanding of our credit union’s core values and strategic goals
  • Have an enthusiastic, positive and engaging personality; the ability to engage, persuade and influence, to make presentations to groups and meetings.
  • Be self-motivated with an ability to further develop opportunities and to launch new initiatives
  • Have the ability to develop strong relationships within all levels of the organisation, within the community and within the credit union sector.
  • Understand applicable regulatory compliance laws and regulations related to the financial services sector, and in particular, the credit union sector.
  • Have strong digital marketing skills, along with a proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
