188 Children go Head to Head in the
Annual Schools Quiz
in Loughrea last Saturday evening.
Saturday evening last saw the Temperance Hall in Loughrea packed to its capacity for the annual credit union schools quiz.
The largest to date with 47 teams and 188 children going head to head all looking for a place at the next stage of the quiz which will be held at Chapter level on March 6th.
From 6.15pm in the evening children entered the hall and waited patiently until Martin Smyth, Quizmaster for the night announced the quiz was about to start. This was 7pm and the children were anxious to start.
Three directors Máire Doyle, Chairperson, Justin OByrne and Donal Burke together with the David McDonnell, Manager were kept busy correcting as Martin moved the quiz along at a steady pace for the contestants.
A short break after Round 5 gave the contestants time to think, a little drink and some chocolate and to ready themselves for the second half. But not before the scores were totted electronically by Karen Fahy and Emma Lawless. It was becoming clear that a Tiebreaker might be eminent for both the junior and senior teams.
While all of this was happening, each of the 47 teams had their photo taken by Gabriel Burke, director. Members from the Youth Advisory Council were hand on in supervising the floor etc during the night.
It was not long before Martin brought the 20th annual school quiz to a finish and the winning teams were announced in
Category A and Category B.

The winners in category B came from St Brendans Boys N.S including Martin McManus, Johnathan Ryan, Jack Connolly and Sean Cahalan, In second place was Killeenadeema N.S with Conor Brown, Kevin Roach, Eoghan Monaghan and Aaron Murray.
Máire Doyle - Chairperson thanked the parents, teachers and children for their part in making this event bigger and better each year.
